Metadata Series: Schemas – Cross-walking

Description

Schemas can be daunting when you see all of the documentation. This session demystifies the use of schemas by walking attendees through the cross-walking process from MARC to Dublin Core, Dublin Core to METS using the MARC record of “French Fries” from Introduction to Cataloging, the last session of this Metadata Series, as the starting point.

Objectives

  • Provide an overview of Schemas
  • Explain the basic factors that affect cross-walking tasks between schemes
  • Introduce discipline-specific schema VRA Core and Darwin Core
